Garden Design
Every WilsonJones project starts with the design, because a garden reads best when the layout is thought through before the build begins. We walk the space with you, talk about how you actually want to use it, and work out the levels, sightlines, planting and materials as one scheme rather than a list of separate jobs. Because the same firm then builds what it draws, the design isn't a wish-list handed to someone else — it's a plan we know we can deliver, and cost honestly, from the first conversation.

Paving & Patios
A patio frames the whole garden, so it has to sit level and drain properly. We lay porcelain, Indian sandstone, limestone and natural stone — from crisp contemporary greys to riven traditional finishes — on a full excavated sub-base with drainage and neatly cut joints. Curved courses, stepped level changes and integrated lighting are all part of the work. Built to look good and stay put through Cheshire winters, not to lift and rock after the first hard frost.

Fencing & Walling
Boundaries and walls frame how a garden looks and feels, and add privacy and structure besides. We install closeboard, panel and slatted composite fencing set firm to hold in Cheshire clay and wind, and build brick and stone garden walls — boundary, decorative and load-bearing. Old fencing is removed and disposed of as part of the job. Lines are run straight, walls are laid true and pointed neatly, and everything ties back into the paving or planting it borders.

Retaining Walls
Cheshire gardens are rarely flat, and a sloping plot only becomes usable once the levels are held. We build retaining walls in brick, block and natural stone — from a single raised bed or seating wall to full terraced schemes stepping a garden down a slope. Properly founded, drained behind and tied in, so the wall does its job for the long run and the terraces above it stay level. Often the difference between an awkward bank and a garden you can actually use.

Decking & Composite Decking
A deck turns an awkward or sloping corner into an outdoor room you actually use. We build in pressure-treated timber for warmth and in composite where low upkeep matters most, framing on properly set posts and treated joists so it stays level and safe underfoot. Raised and multi-level structures handle uneven gardens, while steps, handrails, balustrades and integrated lighting finish the space off neatly.

Timber Structures
The right structure gives a garden a focal point and a place to sit under. We design and build pergolas, gazebos, framed shade structures and bespoke timber and steel features — set on proper foundations, built square and finished to last. Whether it's a simple pergola over a patio or a covered seating area to use through the seasons, it's built as part of the wider scheme so it belongs in the garden rather than sitting on top of it.

Turf & Artificial Grass
A lawn is only as good as the ground beneath it. We supply and lay cultivated natural turf, and we specialise in artificial grass — a durable, low-maintenance, all-year finish that suits family lawns, play areas, shaded corners and even putting greens. Either way the base does the work: rotovation, levelling, topsoil or drainage membranes and edging, so the lawn roots evenly or the artificial grass sits flat and drains rather than rippling and pooling.

Groundworks
Good landscaping is as much about the base you don't see as the surface you do. We carry out the groundwork ourselves — excavation, muck-away, consolidated sub-bases, drainage runs and setting levels — before any paving, walling or turf goes down. On a patio or a terraced garden especially, this is what decides whether the finished surface holds true or lifts and settles a season later. It's the least glamorous stage and the one we're most careful about.

Sometimes it isn't a single surface you need but the whole garden rethought. Our full landscaping service brings design, groundworks and every element of an outdoor transformation together — patios, paving, walling, fencing, decking, timber structures and lawns as one coherent scheme. Because a single team carries the job from the first sketch to the last edge cut, nothing gets lost between trades and the finished garden reads as one considered design rather than a set of separate jobs.

Stephen comes out, walks the garden, and looks at the things that shape both cost and quality — levels, access, drainage and how you want to use the space. We talk through the layout and materials, then put a clear, no-obligation quote to it. Small jobs to large projects — the same honest starting point.

Groundwork & build
We handle the groundwork and hard landscaping ourselves — excavation, sub-bases, drainage and levels done properly before a single slab or block is laid. Then one team carries the build through paving, walling, fencing, decking and planting, working tidy and to industry standards from start to finish.

Clean finish & handover
Edges cut clean, joints filled, the site swept and cleared. We walk the finished garden with you and leave you with straightforward care advice for whatever we've laid — and, being a local Cheshire firm, we're not hard to find if you ever need us back.

Do you charge for a site visit or quote?
No. Stephen comes out, walks the garden, looks at access, levels and drainage, and puts a clear, no-obligation quote to it — whether it's a single patio or a full garden design and build. No pressure to go ahead.
Do you design as well as build?
Yes. We plan the layout and materials and then build it ourselves, rather than handing a design to a separate crew — so the design is something we know we can build and cost honestly, and nothing gets lost in between.
Do you take on small jobs, or only full gardens?
Both — from a single patio, a run of fencing or a new lawn through to a garden completely reimagined. Small jobs get the same care and the same free quote as the large ones.
Will the same team see the whole job through?
Yes. One team carries the work from groundwork through paving, walling, fencing, decking and planting, with Stephen across it throughout — so nothing gets lost between trades.
What paving and materials do you use?
